Chocolate mint treats

Double chocolate treats

You will need:

- a chocolate mint plant
- scissors
- jar of water
- large planter
- potting mix
- gravel (or grit or ground pumice)

Method:

Chocolate mint, the plant, makes for a delicious treat.
All you need to do is add real chocolate!
Ask an adult to help you melt some chocolate buttons in the microwave. Dip chocolate mint leaves, one at a time, into the melted chocolate. Place the dipped leaves on a dish lined with greaseproof paper. Pop the dish into the freezer for a few minutes. Once the chocolate has set on the leaves, it’s time to snack!

How to share your chocolate mint source

Step 1
Cut a few stems off the mint plant (make each cut just below a pair of leaves). These pieces of stem are called ‘cuttings’.

Step 2
Remove the larger leaves from each cutting and leave on the smaller ones. Keep the larger leaves because you are going to use them later.

Step 3
Put the stems in the jar of water. Place the jar out of direct sunlight. In about one week you will see roots begin to grow from the base of the stems. Once they look long and strong,
it’s time to plant them.

Step 4
Mix together equal amounts of potting mix and gravel. Pour this into a large planter which has drainage holes in its base. Makes holes in the mix with a stick. Pop the cuttings into the holes and firm up the mix around them. Give your cuttings some water. Leave them out of direct sunlight for a few days.
